Aviation disasters are at the heart of Fleming & Associates L.L.P.'s history. Our founder, George Fleming, began his career as an attorney for the U. S. Department of Justice representing the United States in major airplane crashes and other aviation disasters.
Over the years, Fleming & Associates has represented many clients in general, agricultural, and commercial aviation cases. For example, Fleming & Associates represented five of the families of the 260 passengers killed when American Airlines flight 587 crashed leaving New York crashed in the Queens neighborhood of Belle Harbor.
The American Airlines Airbus A300-600 jet left John F. Kennedy airport bound for Santo Domingo, and crashed at 9:17 a.m. EST. All 260 people on board were killed, including five infants sitting on their parents' laps. Five people on the ground were also killed, making it one of the deadliest crashes to ever take place on American soil.
Fleming & Associates was able to establish negligence against the manufacturer of the aircraft and American Airlines in the crash of flight 587. This resulted in a favorable which resulted in a favorable settlement for our clients.
Fleming & Associates also represented an American tourist who was severely injured when she was directed into a spinning Tropic Air jet propeller, and the families of persons lost in a TAN SAHSA airlines crash in Honduras.
Other confidential settlements have been reached by Fleming & Associates for families in the ValuJet aircraft disaster in the Florida Everglades, the US Air flight 427 aircraft disaster near Pittsburgh, and the Arrow Air crash near Gander, Newfoundland when 248 members of the Army's 101st Airborne Division died.
