On October 7, 2015, it was announced by Cook Medical that they would initiate a voluntary recall of certain sizes of its Beacon Tip Angiographic Catheters. This recall serves as an extension of the company’s previous voluntary recall on July 2, 2015. The Beacon Tip Angiographic Catheters are subject to tip separation or splitting, resulting in 42 Medical Device Reports. The splitting can lead to lost function of the device, as well as requiring medical attention and procedures to recover any pieces that may have broken off. If the pieces are not recovered, it could potentially lead to the blood flow to the organs being clogged.
Distributors and customers of Cook Medical have been notified of the recall and requested that they all discontinue the use of the product and exchange the catheters for a credit.
