Bayer Stops Selling Essure in Europe

Bayer announced on Monday, September 18 that they will no longer sell Essure, their permanent form of birth control, in Europe.

While the pharmaceutical company claims that this decision is purely based on commercial reasons, the European Union had already suspended sales of this product three months ago in response to concerns over its safety.

Medical experts have linked Essure to a number of painful and potentially life-threatening side effects including perforated organs, severe pelvic pain, autoimmune diseases, and more.

Following this decision, the United States is the only place where this device is still sold and distributed. Bayer also announced that they would not seek renewal for their application for the “CE” marking which would allow the product to be sold in any of the 28 nations that make up the EU.

If you suffered any of the side effects associated with this birth control implant, our Essure attorneys at Fleming, Nolen & Jez are ready to work with you to help you fight for the legal outcome you deserve.
