Symptoms Caused by Essure®
Bayer HealthCare began marketing Essure® in November of 2002, after rushing product development and testing. The United States Food & Drug Administration provided product approval, but soon, reports surfaced that Essure® was not safe for use and has in fact caused injuries and pain.
How the Essure® Contraceptive Implant Works
The Essure® system is designed as a non-surgical sterilization option for women who wish for permanent birth control but are not interested in tubal ligation. Essure® is a small device made up of polyester fibers and two flexible metal coils; the device is implanted in the fallopian tubes through the vagina and—over the course of approximately three months—causes irritation and scar tissue, preventing the sperm from fertilizing the eggs.
Have You or a Loved One Been Injured by Essure®
Unfortunately, the Essure® sterilization system has been linked to severe side effects and dangerous symptoms in some patients. The Essure® device has been known to migrate, which can cause perforation of the uterine wall or fallopian tube.
Other dangerous symptoms and side effects include:
- Blood clots
- Pain in the pelvic area
- Menstrual irregularities
- Weight gain / weight loss
- Birth defects
- Incompatibility due to allergic reaction to nickel
- Failure resulting in unplanned pregnancy
